If you received your SSDI benefit from Social Security in December, here is the January payment schedule with a 2025 COLA increase

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has issued all SSDI payments to beneficiaries who began receiving disability benefits prior to May 1997. They received their payout on December 3, exactly like those receiving SSI at the same time. Furthermore, if you received disability benefits after April 30, 1997, and your birthday fell between the 1st and 10th of any month, your payday was December 11, 2024.

So, all of these SSDI recipients need to prepare for their January payout. The first thing to know is that the average payment will be around $1,580, which is $38 greater than in 2024. If your disability payout is significantly smaller, you might expect to get fewer funds. For example, if your monthly cheque is $500, the revised amount after COLA is $512.5.

If a worker with a qualifying disability is unable to work for more than a year due to their physical condition and has paid enough payroll taxes, the Social Security Administration may give them with monthly benefits.

As a result, if you have never worked, you will not be eligible for SSDI benefits. It is necessary to have acquired enough work credits. Otherwise, you’ll have to apply for Supplemental Security Income instead.

The maximum SSDI benefit will be $4,018, up from $3,822. The average Disability Insurance payment will be approximately $1,580. However, each beneficiary receives a different amount according on their employment history, earnings, and filing age.
